Creating boundaries isn’t always an easy task. But we need to have them in order for people in our personal and professional lives to understand where we stand and what our limits are. People commonly hesitate to set boundaries in fear they will be rejected and left out that it almost seems easier to feed into situations that make us uncomfortable.
This is why it’s so important for you to be in tune with your feelings so you can practice self-awareness and self-care. You’ll be more confident in communicating what you are and aren’t comfortable with along with your beliefs, values and expectations.
When boundaries don’t exist or are weak, you’re more likely to be manipulated and taken advantage of by others. This imbalance in relationships can make you feel disrespected and violated. But if you continue to allow boundaries to be crossed without asserting yourself, the behaviors will just keep repeating themselves and you’ll not only find yourself frustrated, but also surrendering into the other person’s persuasion and manipulation. You’ll have zero interest left in the relationships.
Shift some of the energy that you’re giving to others and focus it on yourself. Allow yourself to experience respect, support, understanding and communication as a two-way street that is give and take. You’ll see how the relationship will start to change and hold more integrity.
